Fire Safety System Installer of the Year
Passive Fire Protection
Industrial Fire Protection Ltd has been installing the full range of passive fire protection systems for many years and its key staff draw on the long experience in this field since the conception of this modern specialist trade in the 1970s.
During the period of operation IFP has successfully provided installations to large high profiled contracts, with values of the subcontract works at circa £2 million to small but vital installation using specialist applications for as little as £2,000. Some notable projects in recent years include 30 Gresham Street London, Bishopsgate Development London, Star City Development Birmingham, Queens Elizabeth Medical Centre Birmingham, Millennium Centre Cardiff and GCHQ Cheltenham.
In each case our technical input, placing manufacturers products to critical non-standard details with the co-operation of the manufacturers and architect has allowed us to play a key part in the overall fire strategy of the buildings. We have moved from structural steel to fire stopping, compartmentation, and as in the case of the Wembley New Stadium fire rated insulation and acoustic lining.
In the main, the new construction market has seen the installation of passive fire protection as a one off arrangement, arranging for the damage and repairs to be carried out to practical completion only. Here however, IFP has made a number of separate arrangements, with the ultimate client to maintain and support the installation. Such projects include Nottingham Evening Post Group, Castle Wharf Development.
Clegg Food Products Division regularly discuss and instruct alterations and amendments to buildings previously fire protected by us throughout the country. We are also in contact with the House of Fraser stores to develop a maintenance plan for the recently completed Fremlin Walk Development at Maidstone, Kent. In all cases, due to our long experience supported by the manufacturers and our Professional Indemnity Insurance, we are able to provide support to those seeking advice on all types of systems, including fibre sprays, intumescent coatings, pre-cast epoxy casings, boards, compounds, curtains and batts.
The role of Passive Fire Protection Installer has reached an increased level of scrunity over the past 5 years, and IFP relies on reputation for its continued growth. In the current year a turnover of £4 million will be carried out.
In an ongoing attempt to not only meet the demands of the main contracts group on safety including CSCS etc, IFP continue to submit candidates for development in the area of installation training. With the commitment to third party accreditation, employees will have passed at least one module of training, and in some cases have attended them all at FIRAS. We believe that having an informed workforce does help to ensure the work is done right first time on site.
As can be evidenced by the foregoing, our membership and continued support of third party accreditation started in June 200. While having maintained records and check sheets on all projects to satisfy the client, we feel that by having our works policed eliminates any poor practices developing and as-built details can be acted upon swiftly to ensure only manufacturer approved modifications are installed. The simplicity of the process where we advise FIRAS of the projects awarded, and where they then arrange a visit and inspect all installations, makes for early reports on the commitment to do the right job.
